~Dick's Ebook Format FAQ's~
Dick Claassen, editor-graphics@awestruckebooks.net
| We offer our customers many different ebook formats. All of these formats make Awe-Struck's titles attractive to many readers with a variety of reading devices. Although it's not necessary for you, the author, to know much about these formats, arming yourselves with the information presented here will make it easy for you to brag about Awe-Struck to everyone you know. :-) Besides, knowledge is power. <G> |
Awe-Struck sells many different ebook formats. In fact, it would be safe to say that Awe-Struck offers more formats than the majority of ebook publishers. This is highly advantageous to you, the author, because a variety of formats appeals to a greater number of customers, and that fact will generate more sales. For example, many people own Palm based devices such as the Palm Pilot, the Visor, and the Sony Clie. Others may not use the Palm but prefer the Pocket PC. Still others might prefer the REB1100. We want to appeal to all our customers, so it makes sense to offer many formats. Hopefully, at some point in the future, the ebook format will be standardized. This would make it easy for everyone, especially us. But until that happens, we will continue to offer a wide variety of formats. Below is a table that will let you see, at a glance, what formats we offer and what devices they can be played on. You may not be particularly interested in the "FORMAT TYPE" column. It's useful for the techi, but you can certainly live the rest of your life not needing to know that the Microsoft Reader format has the <.lit> extension on its filenames. :-)
| DEVICE | FORMAT TYPE |
| Palm based devices, MobiPocket | <filename>.prc |
| Pocket PC based devices, Microsoft Reader | <filename>.lit |
| Computer, Microsoft Reader, PC only | <filename>.lit |
| Computer, Mac/PC, HTML | <filename>.html |
| Computer, Mac/PC, Acrobat Reader | <filename>.pdf |
We offer our customers instant fulfillment:
One advantage we have over many other publishers is that we provide download menus where the customer can download the ebook(s) they purchased. This is, in essence, true instant fulfillment. All titles are password protected so someone can't steal all our books from a download page. Many publishers still send ebooks by attachment. This is a cumbersome process and isn't instant fulfillment: our method of delivery is.
One final note:
Although we sell three different Palm formats, the only one we sell from the Awe-Struck site is the Mobipocket version. The others are sold by our distributors.
I hope the Q&As above have been informative. If you would like to email me with questions other than those covered, my email is-
