DESCRIPTION:
Wanted: Tall, mature (35-45) man, heroic in nature, preferably
dark haired and blue eyed, capable of making long-term commitment.
Must like children, country life, and classical music. Ability
to play one or more instruments an asset. Term of employment three
weekends. Apply in person to Ms. Leslie
Max McKenzie writes
articles about "weird jobs", and occasionally takes one so he'll
know more about it. Jeannie Leslie is a career consultant. Intrigued
and amused, Max goes to see her only to discover the ad had been
pulled some time before, and had been sent out again by error.

|
She doesn't want
to discuss it, though when she meets him, she knows he's the man
she's been dreaming about--the man she wanted for her widowed
sister; hence the ad. Jeannie wants no part of marriage or long-term
commitments and is astounded when Max ask her to marry him, not
because they're in love or anything, but because his brother claims
that whenever he brings a woman home, she forgets him the minute
she sees Max. She refuses, of course, but fate conspires to put
them together...
The two of them
are trapped in a long abandoned coal-mine. During their accidental
incarceration, while they struggle to rescue themselves, Max and
Jeannie fall genuinely in love and she admits that if she were
ever to marry anyone, it would be him. It's easy to make that
promise because they both expect to die in the cavern, but then
they are rescued and Max wants to hold her to that promise...
Now what's a dyed-in-the-wool, anti-marriage woman supposed to
do?

Excerpt:
Jeanie
stood staring at the door for several minutes, then sank back down
onto the couch, lifting her hands to tame the wild hair he had set
free. Again, she heard the faint tinkle of gold bangles and looked
sideways at her arm. It was bare but for the shoved-up sleeve of
her sweatshirt. She had removed the bracelets earlier when she changed,
yet she distinctly recalled hearing them jangle at the moment she'd
responded to Max's kiss.
"All
right, Grandma Margaret," she said. "What in the heck are you up
to? Just go away. Leave me alone. Keep out of my love life!" With
that, she went to bed.
Love
life? The words snapped back into her mind as she was about to slide
into sleep and shocked her wide awake. Now, wait a minute! She didn't
have a love life, dammit! She didn't know who she was telling, her
long-departed ancestor or herself, but it didn't matter. Thinking
about it kept her from having nightmares about men in dark parking
garages --and dreams about blue-eyed heroes with magic kisses. She
awoke feeling more energetic than she had in many months, and much
more eager to face the day.

Author
BIO: Judy
Gill is a compulsive writer who confesses to having once strode
through a campground in Germany begging sheets of writing paper
from perfect strangers in her imperfect German. All this because
she'd left her typewriter at home {this was a VACATION as her husband
insisted}, and when the writing bug bit she was forced to use every
scrap of paper in her trailer, including both sides of brown paper
grocery bags before going on the prowl for more paper. The resulting
book was the only one she ever did in longhand--and was the first
draft of POCKETS FULL OF JOY, her first re-release from Awe-Struck.
To
her great joy, she now does her "camping" aboard a 30' boat, and
has a laptop computer for when the bug bites, which seems to be
daily.
